Buying Lights from JB

As we're going in JB to check out the furniture, we stopped by a lighting shop along Jalan Skudai. We were surprised to see the price there, most lights were about 50% cheaper than Singapore.
Not sure is it because of the location of the shop (this shop is not in the heart of the town area, about 20 min ride from custom), we couldn't find the design we wanted, but we still found some nice designs which we think can be used in our house.
We saw the following wall lights at RM168, after discount was only RM110, which was about SGD47 only. We wanted to buy it for our master room, but too bad the shop has run out of stock, they said will get it from other outlets and call me tomorrow morning to confirm, but as we're heading back to Singapore, i didn't wait for his call. I'll probably call him to check the availability of stock the next time i go in again.

We bought this decorative lights for our dining area, although it was not the initial design we wanted, but is still nice and elegant for the dining area, moreover the after discount price was only RM418, which was about SGD181only. We saw many similar lights in SG is selling this type of lights at least SGD480.

When we checked the lights at the shop, some of the crystal dropped out from the lights, the assistance said is normal and told us to check clearly make sure all are in, so we spent about half an hour there checking the crystal and the glass and test out the light. Hopefully it function well when we install on our ceiling :)

For those interested to get the lights there, you may refer to following:
Name: Tampoi Lighting Centre Sdn. Bhd
No.2,4&6 Jalan Titiwangsa 3/1, Taman Tampoi Indah (Batu 6 1/2, Jalan Skudai), 81200 JB (pls note it is along Jalan Skudai very near to Kitmark and opposite Taman Johor only)
Tel: (067) 2418999, 2369157, & 2418990
Email: tampoi@tm.net.my

Besides lights, we found the ceiling fan also very cheap there, price about the same as SG before conversion. My friend told me her ceiling fans (both KDK and panasonic) bought in JB were around RM300, I wish i can go in again to purchase my fan :)

Actually along our way to the furniture shops we did see many lighting shops, but we didn't stop by to check them out, when we were in Gucca, their designer lights were also around RM500, but as we did not purchase furniture there we didn't buy the lights.

You may click here to see the lights fit on my dining area.

Update:
Saw a forumer posted about a lighting shop in JB, price very cheap and design very nice! I should have seen her post earlier! The designs were very new, and price very very cheap, saw the decorative lights we want at only RM650 before discount, too bad we've already bought our dining area lights.

You may check out the shop if you've not bought your lights yet :)

Hi may I know where did u get your ceiling llights from?? Saw the one cost only $40 & $70 for common & MBR respectively.

  4. mylittlecasa Says:

I bought all the lights from lighting.com except for the one stated in this post. The lights on lighting.com are selling much cheaper than other shops but the quality was so so. Anyway I don't mind about its quality, some of the lights in my house are blinking already, and I just change them with new light bulbs.

  5. Anonymous Says:

Quality so so.. can i assume main problem lies with the bulbs so after changing the light bulbs it work as usual??

    Thanks for your prompt response..

  6. mylittlecasa Says:

Yes, after changing light bulbs can still use. For my MBR bathroom, I got to change the transformer, my contractor said the transformer used by lightings.com is of low quality.
My lights had been in use for around 1.5 years, so to me is ok la, for that kind of money, shd be this kind of quality I guess.

Does Tampoi accept credit card or do you need to change to RM to purchase from these shops?

  17. Craig Says:

I highly discourage people from going to BLE (Best Light Electrical Sdn. Bhd), despite all the good reviews. Don't deny that they are the cheapest of the lot, but the quality of their good also sucks.

    A few problems:
    (1) We just opened the box of light yesterday -- the quality was poor! The furnishing on the wooden part was rough (we need to sandpaper it ourselves) and there were 2 dents on the edges of the light box. We didn't check the good before taking back to Singapore, so now we are faced with (a) making another trip to JB or (b) suck up with it.

    (2) Ceiling fan with light, Fanco brand. One fan has a crack on the light cover. When the electrician unscrewed the cover, the piece broke into pieces. Now my electrician has to go source for replacement. God knows where he's going to find it in Singapore as this is a Malaysian Fanco model!!!

    (3) Ceiling fan with light, Fanco brand. One of the boxes missing a bracket for the remote control.

    (4) Philips fluorescent light. One of the cables came loose, not soldered properly. I must go hunting for a shop in SIngapore to solder the loose wire! Sigh...

    (5) Simple T5 tube. BLE sold it without the bracket to mount the light. All it costs is $1. Why did they purposely omit it? What the heck -- just to save money?

    LESSONS:
    (1) Check your goods before taking it
    (2) Cheap good = cheap quality. Pay a bit more,STAY AWAY from BLE.
    (3) Cindy Chong is not as nice as the forum seems to indicate. Beware of her.

  18. Unknown Says:

Wow! Thanks Craig for the warning. Yes, we should check our goods before leaving shop. Furthermore, the goods were not bought at local (Spore).

There is a company that merchandises the Fanco brand fan here, in Spore. Check address here (http://www.fanco.com.sg/index.php/contact-us).

But I will be going Tampoi Lighting Centre Sdn. Bhd, either this month or early next month. Recommended by close friend to buy lamps there. They also managed to secure warranty with them.

    Hi

Are we require to declare at custom for buy ceiling fan from JB to singapore?

  20. mylittlecasa Says:

If you've exceeded certain amount, you'll need to declare and subject to GST. Thus check the Singapore custom website before your purchase.

    Hi,
Just a sharing..Best Lighting Electrical....we have neighbours along our Residence Area commenting her price are really not cheap. 1st visit they will entertain expecially the name mention on this website. 2nd visit we won't be bother at all and let you hunt around like nobody business. The pricing wise ..every customer will have different pricing example if we bought $50.00 others will bought at $80.00. They only very good and willingly entertain those "RICH" customer from the way of their costume and style.
Their attitude is poor too maybe due to business is good but do not forget words spread by the customers...it only be soon or later you will know. Perhaps I feel that business too good that will drive a person to a different manners.
I believe NOT ONLY this Electrical Shop exist in Johor Bahru.
    Thanks.
